Xi¡¯an Technological University (XATU) was founded in 1955.it is co-founded by the Central Government of China and the Government of Shannxi Province .XATU is a tertiary institute for both undergraduate and graduate studies .There are more than 18000 full-time undergraduate students and 900 graduate in XATU by the year of 2004.Over the years, more than 75000 young men and women have graduate from XITU .The graduate have found their places in various sectors of the society. A traditional strength of XATU is the high employment rate and high valuation received by its graduates, especially in the area of Engineering.

There are 10 school and 4 departments in XATU. They are: the School of Opt-Electronic Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of material s and Chemical Engineering ,the School of Electronic information Engineering ,the school of Economics and management ,the school of Humanities and Social Science ,the school of Art and Media ,the school Continuing Education ,the school of Press ional training, Department of Mathematics and Sciences, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Physical Education ,Department of Foreign language respectively.

XATU admits students throughout the country ,and offers a  range of courses in 42 specialties in Engineering ,Sciences ,Economics, Management, Literature ,Law and Pedagogy learning .It also offers courses and specialized research project for graduate study in 17 specialties, which award degree of master of Engineering and master of Engineering(part-time)

There are 1343 staff members in XITU in 2004 .Among them, there 892 faculty member ,424 of them are professors, associate professors and senior engineer,373 of them hold Ph. D. and MSc degree .More than 50% of the professors have oversea working experience .furthermore, XITU has invited 6 Academicians of Sciences and Engineering as its honored professors.

The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities for teaching and research, and has a well- equipped library with more than 1 million copies of literatures, both in printing and in electronic forms .Members of the university community study and work in state-of ¨Cthe art and well-equipped laboratories, lecture theatres and tutorial rooms . Seminars and lectures are supported by facilities that allow multi-media presentations .XITU has 5 provincial  key laboratories: Thin film techniques and optical Test laboratory .,Precision and ULtra-precision machinery and measurement  laboratory, micro Opto-Electronic Systems Laboratory, Opto-electronic Thin film and Devices, Center for precise Equipment Maintenance and Test. It has 3 provincial key disciplines: the optical Engineering, the Mechanical Production and Automation Engineering and Materials Processing Engineering , which also hold title of¡± Famous Discipines in Universities in Shannxi Province¡± awarded by local government.

XITU actively promotes international relationships and collaboration programmer with universities in Germany, Japan, USA, Britain, Singapore, Russia and other countries.

In addition to meeting China¡¯s manpower requirements,XITU also makes significant contributions to the society by providing the pubic and private sectors with its expanding range of consultancy, professional training and applied research services.
